Bangor, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls women's basketball team handled the U-Maine Augusta Moose, earning an 18-point win. The Owls traveled down the UMA's Bangor campus to play in their second game of the year. Winning 87-69 behind a stunning 28-point performance by Emily Wheaton (Presque Isle, ME).
The Owls came out hot early in the game, being the lead to 12-points after the first quarter, including a step-back buzzer beater by Wheaton, just one of her five threes in the first quarter. After a back and forth second quarter, the Owls would go into halftime with a 41-30 lead over the Moose. Another strong second half by UMPI would eventually lead to their 18-point victory.
Emily Wheaton lead the Owls with a 28-point game behind an impressive 10-11 shooting night and 8-9 from the three. To go along with her one miss on the night, Wheaton added three assists to her stat line. Mariah Dunbar (Canaan, ME) finished the game with 14 points off 50% shooting from the field and 50% from the 3.
Lexi Ireland (Howland, ME) led all bench players with 14 points, going 6-8 from the free throw line. Hunter Mercier (Fairfield, ME) finished with 14 points, Paige Espling (Caribou, ME) finished just two points shy of a double-double with eight points and ten rebounds.
The UMA team finished with four players with over 15 points, but their high scoring was not enough for the Owls lights out shooting from deep.
