Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI women's basketball team took on Northern Vermont University – Johnson in their second game of their back to back weekend, losing another close one 75-69. The Owls also celebrated their senior's last home games. Forward Laura Aroz from Tuscon Arizona, Alexis Levesque, Forward from Grand Isle Maine, and Aisha Colleymore, Guard from Perth Australia.
UMPI came out to a hot start taking the lead early led by Mariah Dunbar's (Fy. Canaan, ME) 11-point first half off 4-7 shooting and 3-6 from three in the first half alone. Johnson bounced back in a big way in the third quarter, scoring 35 points in just 10 minutes, shooting 70% from the field and gaining the lead. Despite a hard fought battle in the fourth quarter, the Badgers would hold on to the lead.
Dunbar led the Owls on the offensive end with 16 points off 6-12 shooting from the field and 4-8 from the three to go along with five rebounds and only one turnover. Hunter Mercier (So. Fairfield, ME) finished with 12 points, 4-8 from the field and 4-7 from three. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Jr. Seattle, WA) was three rebounds shy of a triple double. Finishing with 14 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
The Owls will head to Fort Kent to finish their season, Tuesday 5:00 PM.
