Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent Northern Vermont University – Johnson in the first of their two-day double header weekend. The Owls fell to the Badgers in the tough fought game, 62-53.
The Owls started the game going back and forth down three at the end of the first, as UMPI struggled shooting the ball, shooting 31% from the field and 17% from three. The shooting struggles continued for the Owls leading into halftime, but only finding themselves down four at the half.
The third quarter, led by Owls guards Hunter Mercier (So. Fairfield, ME) and Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Jr. Seattle, WA), each having seven points in the quarter. The Badgers were able to extend their third quarter lead in the fourth off 40% shooting and causing five Owls turnovers.
Reagle led the Owls, with 19 points off 8-13 shooting and six rebounds. Mercier finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kylie Vining (Fy. Island Falls, ME) finished with seven points off the bench, along with some clutch baskets at the end of the fourth to give life to a close comeback for UMPI.
The Owls will finish their second double-header game with Johnson tomorrow, while celebrating senior day for three of the UMPI Players. Tip-off at 1:00 PM.
