Castine, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's basketball team traveled to Castine to take on North Atlantic Conference opponent Maine Maritime Academy. The Owls would lose 73-47 to a tough defensive team in the Mariners.
A slow start for the Owls resulted in a big first half deficit as the Mariners held UMPI to only 14 first half points. The Owls picked up their offense in the second half, only losing each quarter by one point, but the lead for MMA was too large as they held onto their ninth NAC victory of the year.
The Owls struggled shooting the ball, finishing the game shooting just under 30% from the field and only 15% from three. UMPI did stay aggressive against the Mariners defense, getting to the line 23 times on the night, but only being able to convert on 13 of those free throw attempts.
Mariah Dunbar (Fy. Canaan, ME) led the Owls in scoring finishing with 15 points on 6-10 shooting and going 3-4 from the free throw line. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Jr. Seattle, WA) and Kassie Farley (Fy. Washburn, ME) each finished with nine points off the bench, while Reagle added seven rebounds to her stat line.
The Owls will head to Thomas College on Saturday for their last road conference game of the year; tip off at 2:00PM.
