Presque Isle, ME – The women's UMPI basketball team took on the Fisher College Falcons for their second game of their back to back home games. The Falcons would beat the Owls by 10, 64-54 in the hard fought battle.
The Owls came out with a slow start, being down 13-8 after the first quarter. Fisher kept the pressure on the Owls, extending their lead early in the second quarter, before UMPI went on an 8-2 run to end the first half, down 31-22.
A strong third quarter brought the Falcons lead to just seven, after some great shooting from the Owls, finishing the third quarter with 17 points off 50% shooting from the field. The Owls continued to battle, the back and forth game stayed within six points until the Falcons guard Lauren Allen hit a big 3 and a lay-up late in the game to bring them up 11 with under a minute left.
Hunter Mercier (So. Fairfield, ME) led the Owls in scoring with 13 points off of 4-10 shooting and 3-7 from three, along with four rebounds and no turnovers. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Jr. Seattle, WA) came off the bench with 10 points off of 3-4 shooting and 4-7 from the free throw line.
The Owls will have the week off before hosting North Atlantic Conference opponent Northern Vermont – Lyndon on Friday and Saturday.
