Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls hosted their first game of the spring semester. North Atlantic Conference opponent Thomas College finished with a road win, 72-56 vs the women's team. The Owls fall to 1-6 in the conference and 3-13 on the year while the Terriers advance to 7-0 in the NAC.
The Owls struggled from the field shooting only 26 percent from the field and 23 percent from the three. The Terriers active defense early in the game gave the Owls some problems as they turned the ball over six time in the first ten minutes of the game and Thomas came out with an early seven point lead.
UMPI's offense picked up after the first quarter, but they still struggled to shoot the ball and were unable to cut into the Terriers lead and eventually losing 16 points.
The Owls were led by the aggressive play by Sarah Musselman (So. Turlock, CA), who, despite struggling from the field, finished with 14 points off of an impressive 10-14 from the free throw line. Mariah Dunbar (Fy. Canaan, ME) was one of the Owls that shot the ball well, with a 5-11 shooting performance giving her 13 points, also shooting 3-6 from the three.
The Owls will host another NAC opponent in Maine Maritime Academy this Saturday the 25th at 2:00PM.
