Nashua, NH – The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's basketball team finished up their first road trip with their second game in the GNAC vs NAC Challenge. UMPI lost a close battle with Rivier University, after the back and forth game ended 80-72. This brings the Owls to a 1-3 record as the Raiders advance to 2-6.
From the beginning these teams battled as the score stayed close in the first half, with the Owls having the largest lead with six points, after a Hunter Mercier (So. Fairfield, ME) three giving UMPI a 14-8 lead. The raiders battled back as the game continued to stay close going into the half tied 33-all.
The third quarter was led by the shooting of Mercier, with three of her five 3-pointers came in the third to give UMPI a two point lead going into the fourth. Once again back and forth the teams went as the score sat 62-62 in the Raiders favor. A costly turnover by the Owls, their only one of the quarter, resulted in a quick five point swing. UMPI was able to bring it back as close as three points, before the Raiders were able to put it away with some late game free throws.
Mercier led the Owls with 17 points, shooting 6-11 from the field, an impressive 5-10 from three. Mariah Dunbar (Fy. Canaan, ME) finished with 13 points, shooting 3-6 from three and seven rebounds. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Jr. Seattle, WA) put up some impressive numbers with 10 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds while shooting 57% from the field. Taylor Miller (Jr. Weeki Wachee, FL) added 10 more points off of 4-6 shooting.
The Owls will head back home for their home opener vs U-Maine Machias on Monday November 25th at 5:30PM.
