Owls Fall Short in First Game at GNAC vs NAC Challenge

Nashua, NH — The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's basketball team traveled to Rivier University to play in their first game of the GNAC vs NAC Challenge Classic. The Owls lost their first game to Lasell College 79-61, bringing their record to 1-2.

The Owls got down early in the first quarter to the Laser's 21-12, as they came out shooting 50% from the field and holding the Owls to under 30%. Lasell increased the lead to 44-27 after the end of the first half, after going 12-12 from the free throw line in the second quarter.

UMPI picked up the defense in the third quarter holding Lasell to 17 points but were unable to cut the lead, until the fourth. A late comeback push in the fourth was not enough despite scoring 23 points in the 10-minute quarter.

The Owls were led by Taylor Miller (Jr. Weeki Wachee, FL) who had 13 points shooting 5-9 from the field and four rebounds. Sarah Mussleman (So. Turlock, CA) finished with 11 points 4-13 from the field and 2-3 from three, with six rebounds. Hunter Mercier (So. Fairfield, ME) added ten points and four assists.

The Owls finish their New Hampshire trip with a game vs Rivier University tomorrow at 2:00PM.
