Washburn’s Farley to Play Hoops at UMPI

Presque Isle, ME - Head Women's Basketball Coach Gavin Kane announces that Kassie Farley, a senior at Washburn District High School, will be joining the UMPI Basketball Program in the Fall of 2019.

Farley eclipsed the 1000 point scoring milestone during this past season and finished her High School career with 1,214 points.

"As a player, Kassie is extremely knowledgeable of the game.  She was the definition of a coach on the floor," stated Washburn Coach Jon Poisson. "One of the things I love about her as a player is whatever the team needs, she will find a way to assist the team in that way."

Kassie was named Washburn High School's Rookie of the Year her freshman season in 2016 and then earned the team's Most Valuable Player of the Year Award in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She was named to the All-Aroostook County Girls Basketball Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and was selected as her Team's Captain those same three years.

"We are very pleased to have Kassie joining our Program," said UMPI Head Coach Gavin Kane. "I had the opportunity to see her play a number of times over the past two years and what always stood out to me was how unselfish Kassie is on the court. She had a lot of younger teammates on the Washburn team and she was always encouraging them. You could easily see her leadership abilities with the way she communicated. Once I met Kassie, I could quickly distinguish what an outstanding young lady she is and why everyone spoke so highly of her."

Washburn's regular season record was 37-35, with 4 postseason appearances during Farley's career.  Washburn lost in the semis her first two years, the prelims her junior year and the quarterfinals her senior year.  Their postseason record was 3-4.

Kassie Farley is enrolled in the Nursing Program at UMPI.
