Owls Fall to Husson 67 to 48

Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Basketball Team (5-5, 1-2) battled the North Atlantic Conference #1 Seeded Husson Eagles (7-5, 3-0) for three and a half quarters before the Eagles pulled away in the final 5 minutes of the game for 67 to 48 win at Wieden Hall on the Presque Isle Campus.

Both Teams started the game aggressively on the defensive end of the floor and forced tough shots as scoring was limited early on. Logan Huckins scored 6 points in the 1st quarter as Husson moved out to a 15 to 9 lead after one period. The Owls kept pace in the 2nd quarter closing the gap on a couple of occasions as Rhylee Wright (Jr. Frenchville, ME) scored 6 consecutive points to tie the game up 15 to 15 at the 7:29 mark of the quarter. Wright scored 10 1st half points and Marissa Valdivia-Reagle (So. Seattle, WA) scored 6 points as UMPI trailed 31 to 23 at the break. Husson finished the half on a 9 to 2 run when Sydney Allen of Central High School buried a 3 pointer from the top of the key with 18 seconds remaining in the 2nd quarter to extend the lead for Husson. Washburn native Kenzie Worcester scored 9 firat half points to help the Eagles gain a 31 to 23 advantage at the break.

The Owls continued to battle in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Eagles 13 to 12 and were trailing 43 to 36 going into the final frame. Hunter Mercier (Fr. Fairfield, ME) hit on a couple of long range 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter as well as in the 4th as UMPI stayed within striking distance until midway through the final qaurter. Freshman Vanessa Duarte came up big for Husson in the 2nd half hitting on 4 of 6 three point attemps and putting a stop to a couple of UMPI runs. 

Senior guard Kenzie Worcester led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points and 7 assists, while Duarte scored 16 and Joan Overman came off the bench to add 10 points. Megan Peach had a game-high 10 rebounds.

For the Owls, Rhylee Wright led the team with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Mercier netted 12 points on 4 for 7 shooting from behind the arc and Reagle added 6 assists and 4 steals.
