Chicopee, MA - The Me-Presque Isle Women's Basketball Team traveled to Elms College with only 7 healthy players but were still hoping to continue their early season success, however, the Blazers (2-1) jumped out to a quick start on the Owls (2-2) at one point leading 25 to 6 and finishing the 1st Quarter with a 27 to 10 advantage.
UMPI would show character and battle back in the 2nd Quarter from the large deficit and only trail Elms 42 to 34 at the half. Hunter Mercier (Fr. Fairfield, ME) scored 6 points in the 2nd stanza and guard Emmy Churchill (Jr. Washburn, ME) added 5 as the Owls worked their way back into the game tightening up their defense while outscoring the Blazers 24 to 15.
Elms came out of halftime hitting their first 5 shot attempts and opened the lead back up to 18 points and UMPI was not able to close the gap the rest of the way.
Leading the way offensively for the Owls was Rhylee Wright (Jr. Frenchville, ME) who had a game high 26 points while pulling down 8 rebounds. Emmy Churchill scored 11 points and had 3 steals while Mercier scored 11 points and recorded 5 rebouds. Marissa Valdivia-Reagle (So. Seattle, WA) hauled down 6 rebounds and added 3 assists from the point guard position.
For the Blazers, freshman guard McKenzie Huria scored 17 points and dished out 3 assists. Point Guard Molly Moulton scored 16 points and 6'0" forward Niah Pantry added 10.
