Boaston, MA - The UMaine-Presque Isle Women's Basketball Team (1-1) struggled offensively right from the start of the game and could never find a rythem as they dropped a 63 to 35 decision to Fisher College on Saturday afternoon in Boston. The Falcons improved their overall record to (5-0).
The Owls defended very well throughout much of the 1st quarter holding Fisher College scoreless for 4 minutes of play and 8 points total for the period. UMPI, however, could not get anything going offensively themselves and would only manage 5 points through the fisrt 10 minutes of play. "I was pleased with how we played defensively early in the game," said Coach Gavin Kane. "But then we started to get frustrated with our inability to score the ball and eventually we found ourselves trying to play catch up."
Despite their offensive woes, the Owls were still within reach midway throught the 2nd quarter before the Falcons went on a quick 8 to 0 run and opened up a 32 to 14 lead at the half. UMPI picked up their scoring in the 3rd period but Fisher would continue their hot shooting and would have a 45 to 28 advantage after three quarters. UMPI went cold again in the 4th period and the Falcons would completely pull away as the Owls would finish the game shooting just 23.7% as a Team.
Rhylee Wright (Jr. Frenchville, ME) was the only player in double digits for Me-Presque Isle with 10 points and Wright added a team high 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Marissa Reagle (So. Seattle, WA) scored 8 points, had 6 rebounds and notched 4 steals, while Emmy Churchill (Jr. Washburn, ME) had 6 points and 7 rebounds and Sara Musselman (Fr. Turlock, CA) added 6 points along with 3 assists.
Piper Mali scored 16 points to pace Fisher College and Vivian Lara added 14 points.
"We certainly did not match our intensity or the energy level that we played with against Rivier on Friday," stated Kane. "Tomorrow is our 3rd game in three days and we need to turn the page quickly and come back with a great effort."
