AUBURN, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Women's Basketball team (4-11) travelled downstate to take on the Central Maine Community College Mustangs (17-1) on Wednesday night. The Owls would fall by a score of 85-57.
UMPI would never recover from a slow start. The Owls would shoot just three of 12 in the first quarter, including 0 of 4 three-point attempts. The visiting team would turn the ball over ten times in the opening quarter, allowing the Mustangs to build a 30-6 lead. The Owls would regroup and cut into the lead over the next two quarters, shooting 45.7% in the second and third quarters, but they would not be able to keep up with the high-powered CMCC offense. UMPI would shoot 26.7% from the floor in the final period, and the Mustang's early lead would be too much to overcome, as they would earn the 28-point victory.
Syndeny Churchill (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would pace the Owls with 19 points and four steals. Rhylee Wright (FR, Frenchville, ME) would record another double-double on the season, scoring ten points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Amanda Hotham (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would collect nine rebounds. CMCC's Brooke Reynolds (SO, Poland, ME) would lead all scorers with 21 points and would grab seven rebounds. Eraleena Gethers-Hai would be credited with a double-double, scoring 18 points and collecting 11 rebounds.
The Owls will be on the road Saturday as they visit Lesley University (5-10). That game will start at 6:30 PM.
