PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (3-17) hosted the number four ranked team in Division 2 USCAA, the University of Maine at Augusta Moose (15-6) on Sunday. The Moose would outplay the Owls from the beginning, and wind up with a 72-31 victory.
The Owls played yet another game shorthanded as their leading scorer and rebounder recovers from injury, as well as other players fighting through injuries, which played into a poor shooting performance from UMPI. A 22.9% shooting performance was not enough to overcome the Moose's high powered offense. Augusta would more than double the Owl's rebounding totals, including 16 offensive rebounds. The many second chance opportunities led to UMA building a big lead early on and extend it throughout the game.
Jamie Plummer (JR, Richmond, ME) was the leading scorer in the game with 19 points. Two UMA players would finish with double-doubles, as Caitlin LaFountain (FR, Topsham, ME) would score 18 points and grab 12 rebounds, and Morgan Card (SO, Ellsworth, ME) would finish with ten points and 11 rebounds.
The Owls play next on Saturday, January 30th, when the host Central Maine Community College. The game is scheduled to start at 2 PM.
