Owls Overtake Scotties 65-53, Move To GSAC Semifinals

UMaine-Presque Isle got 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists from senior Olivia McNally to lead the Owls to a 65-53 victory over Agnes Scott College.

Despite giving up 13 first-half offensive rebounds to Agnes Scott, which led to 16 interior points for the Scotties, UMaine-Presque Isle was able to open up a 36-21 halftime lead.

The second half Owl lead would balloon to as much as 19, before the game crew from Atlanta would put on a late run to close the gap to 12.

Amanda Hotham scored 13 and grabbed 7 boards, point guard Darby Toth didn't miss a shot in tallying 9 points to go along with a tournament-high 11 assists and freshman Sydney Churchill added 11, including 3 bombs from downtown.

The Scotties were led by Shavonne Orr who had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Care Bacon added 12. 

The Owls (18-6), one of the most improved teams in NCAA Division III, will play #1 seed Salem College (19-4) at 1pm Saturday in the GSAC semifinals.

*Agnes Scott has Maine Connection-Agnes Scott Head coach is Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Trish Roberts, who was the Head Coach at University of Maine and had tremendous success at Orono from 1988-92, leading the Black Bear Women to 3 conference championships and a 4-year record of 82-32 before heading to Michigan to take the head coaching job in Ann Arbor.

*Homestanding Trinity Washington College won their quarterfinal game against Findlandia College of Michigan 68-67.  Jamila Williams hoisted 26 shots to score 25 and grabbed 15 rebounds in leading Trinity to the seedings upset.  Findlandia was the GSAC #3 seed, Trinity was #6.

*#2 seed Pine Manor forced 34 turnovers to defeat Wesleyan 89-40 and will move on to face Trinity Washington in the 3pm GSAC semifinal Saturday.
