OWLS USE STRONG DEFENSIVE EFFORT TO MOVE TO 8-3

Fort Kent, MAINE  --  The UMaine-Presque Isle women used a strong defensive effort to post a victory against Dalhousie University-Agricultural Campus 59-28 in day two action at the 2014 United Insurance Can-Am Classic hosted by the University of Maine-Fort Kent in Fort Kent, Maine. 

UMPI used an 18-2 run midway through the first half to take a  double digit lead, 31-15 with 3:29 left in the first half and led by at double digits the rest of the way. 

The Owls allowed only 4 field goals in the second half and held the Rams to 33% shooting for the game.

All-Tournament selection Amanda Hotham led UMPI with 16 points to go with eight boards.  Rebecca Campbell added 11 points and 4 rebounds.

Dalhousie guard Haley Wilson scored 15 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.

UMPI (8-3) held a 33-18 edge on the boards including 12 offensive boards which led to 16 second chance points.  The Owls also scored 17 points off of 19 Ram turnovers.

The Owls will next host Vermont Tech on Wednesday, January 8 in a men's/women's Doubleheader beginning with the women's game at 5:30pm.  Free Admission is offered to all elementary, middle and high school students for the January 8 doubleheader.
