(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- Maine Maritime Academy's women's basketball team turned a 5-5 game into a 27-11 lead in less than 10 minutes to run away with a 77-41 victory Sunday over host UMaine-Presque Isle.
MMA is now 8-9 on the season while the Owls drop to 5-12.
Playing their 2nd game in as many days, Presque Isle just could not keep up with the pace and physicality put forth by the Mariners. 6'4 center Rebekah Cambpell hurt the team on the inside, shooting 7-11 and scoring 19 ponts, while Mary Badeen hit 6 three pointers en route to a 26 point performance.
Olivia McNally (Jr./Sherman, ME) was the only Owl to reach double figures on the afternoon. She had 10.
After being outshot (56-42), outrebounded (32-16), and outhustled (8-4 on steals), the only advantage Presque Isle had on the visitors was from the free throw line where the Owls shot 17-22 compared to 7-10 for MMA.
The Mariners felt right at home in Wieden Hall, shooting a sizzling 68% from the floor (13-19) in the 2nd half. Ten different Maine Maritime players found their way into the scoring column before the final horn.
The Owls will take a few days to regroup before traveling to Machias on Wednesday to take on the Clippers. UMM defeated UMPI, 59-44, back on November 28th of last year. Tip time for this Wednesday will be 5:30pm.
