Young Owls fall to the Moose
(BANGOR, ME) -- The young Owls could not hold a late lead after a 10-2 run, which put them up by 1 with 5 minutes remaining, falling to the UMaine - Augusta Moose 70-58. The Owls were lead by Olivia McNally (Jr./Sherman, ME) who returned from an ankle injury, in 35 minutes she scored 14 points and had 6 rebounds.
Augusta moves to 5-4 on the season, while the Owls fall to 0-5.
UMaine - Augusta had a 1 point lead at half time. Both teams defense was stifling in the first half with 6 steals by the Owls and 4 steals by the Moose. Neither team was shooting well from the field either 33% for the Owls and 25% for the Moose. The Owls stifling defense was lead by Emily Pelletier (Sr./Fort Kent, ME). who played all 20 minutes of the first half.
The Augusta lead was pushed to 7 in the second half with 7:17 remaining as Maegan Cloutier hit a jumper. The Owls came storming back allowing only 2 points off free throws over the next 2:30. Yet, down the stretch the Owls began to settle for jump shots and could not maintain their lead. Arreonte Lee of Augusta put up 15 points in the second half, but the Augusta charge down the stretch was sparked by Corinne Dingley who scored 10 of her 14 points in the last 5 minutes.
The Owls full compliment of bench players could not stop the Moose. They ended the game with 18 points, lead by Amanda Hotham(Fr./Fort Fairfield, ME) who finished the game with 7 rebounds and 10 points in 25 minutes.
The Owls will meet rival UMaine-Fort Kent Wednesday. The game will be played in Fort Kent, ME and will start at 5:30 pm.
