(LYNN, MA) -- With the University of Maine-Presque Isle women's basketball team up 38-32 five-minutes into the 2nd half, guard Emily Pelletier (Jr./Fort Kent, ME) broke free on the right wing and hit a three-pointer right in front of her team's bench. That bucket began a 16-4 run as the Owls went on to knock off the Falcons, 68-49.
Up until the game-deciding run, UMPI could not shake free from a very game Fisher team (0-24). The Falcons two standouts, Javanna Bernard and Pamala Bounekhoune hit big shot after big shot to keep their team within shouting distance through the first half. The two would account for all but two of Fisher's points in the entire game (Bernard-24, Bounekhoune-23).
The win was the third straight for UMPI and 4th in their last 5 games. During the modest winning streak, the Owls (8-10) have held each opponent to under 50 points.
UMPI starters shot 58% from the floor on Sunday leading to each one finishing in double figures. Rashell Saucier (So./Washburn, ME) led the Owls with 15 points. Olivia McNally (So./Sherman, ME) finished with 14, Renee Moore (So./Lisbon, ME) had 12, Emily Moore (Sr./Lisbon, ME) chipped in 11 points and 5 assists, and Pelletier added 10.
The Owls return to the road on Tuesday, January 31st when they will play at Bates College at 5:30pm.
