Pelletier's Career High 27 Lead Owls' Comeback Win

#11 Liron Albag "D's Up" at SUNY-Canton

Things looked grim for the University of Maine-Presque Isle women's basketball team Monday afternoon at SUNY-Canton.  Down 13 points with less than 10 minutes remaining the host Roos looked to have things well in hand.  Emily Pelletier (Jr./Fort Kent, ME) had other ideas.  Pelletier hit two of her career-high eight 3-pointers in a decisive run that led to the Owls' 58-56 come-from-behind victory.

Trailing the entire second half, UMPI (4-7) tightened up their defense and whittled their deficit down to 1 point with just over a minute remaning.  That is when Emily Moore (Sr./Lisbon, ME) pulled the trigger on a 12-foot jumper that hit front iron, went off the backboard, and dropped through the hoop to give the Owls their first lead since early in the first half.

The Roos' (3-9) Kaitlin Myers took a three-pointer from the right wing that went off the backboard and rimmed out, falling out of bounds and giving UMPI the ball with 3 seconds remaining.  Olivia McNally (So./Sherman, ME) took the inbound pass and was immediately fouled with 1.1 seconds to go.  After hitting 1 of 2 free throws, UMPI still had to sweat out a desperation half court heave from the Roos that fell well short of its target before being able to exhale and enjoy their two-point win.

The strong finish to the game was in stark contrast to the way the Owls finished the first half.  Tied 23-23, the Roos went on a 9-0 run to take a 32-23 lead into halftime.

Monday's win included some career statistical performances for the Owls led by Pelletier's 27 point explosion.  McNally scored 14 points on 6-11 shooting from the floor.  For her part, the point guard Moore dished out a career best 11 assists.

Canton had three scorers in double figures led by Myers' 16.  Brittany Crump came off the bench to score 12 and the Roos' Jackie Sedlacek put together a solid 14-point, 14-rebound performance.  However it was her technical foul late in the second half that seemed to spark the UMPI comeback.

UMPI continues its week-long road trip on Wednesday when they will face Williams College.  The Eph's are currently ranked #18 in the latest d3hoops.com NCAA Division III poll.  Gametime is set for 7:00pm.
