CHESTNUT HILL, MA (12-4-11) -- The UMPI women's basketball team went on an 7-0 run over a three minute span late in the second-half and never trailed the remainder of the way, collecting a 57-48 victory on Sunday afternoon over Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.
The teams played a back and forth first half that saw UMPI (1-5) take a 26-22 advantage into the break. In the second half, the teams continued to exchange buckets until the 16:48 mark when a lay-up by UMPI's Renee Moore (So./Lisbon, ME)knotted the score at 30-30.
Just over four minutes later, UMPI junior Emily Pelletier (Jr./Fort Kent, ME) hit a three-pointer to break a 30-30 deadlock as part of a 10-0 UMPI run that helped the visitors take a 38-30 advantage. Pelletier was 4-8 on her 3-point attempts en route to leading the Owls with 14 points.
Pine Manor (3-3) made one final run at UMPI closing the deficit to 42-41 with 5:58 left to play. However a jumper by the Owls Olivia McNally (So./Sherman, ME) began the decisive run that would give UMPI a lead by as many as 11 points (57-46) with :12 left to go. McNally had her best offensive game of the season hitting 6-8 shots from the floor and finishing with 12 points.
Rashell Saucier (So./Washburn, ME) recorded her fourth double-double in six games with her 13 point, 13 rebound performance on Sunday. Emily Moore (Sr./Lisbon, ME) had eight assists without a turnover.
The game ended a stretch of three games in three days for the Owls. They will get a day off on Monday before playing three more games over the next five days. On Tuesday they will play their first home game of the season when UMaine-Machias comes to Wieden Hall for a 5:30 tilt.
