USCAA Names Saucier "Player of the Week"
PRESQUE ISLE, ME (12-7-11) – For the second straight week, University of Maine-Presque Isle women's basketball player Rashell Saucier (So./Washburn, ME) has been recognized as a "Player of the Week." This week, the USCAA honored Saucier for her 12 points per game, 13.6 rebounds per game average in three contest from November 28th – December 4th.
The 5'8 forward was able to put up those numbers over a very tough "3 games in 3 days" weekend stretch that saw UMPI make the 9-hour trip to Wesleyan University (CT) for Friday and Saturday's Courtyard by Marriot Tournament and then make a stop in Chestnut Hill, MA on Sunday to take on Pine Manor College. Saucier registered "double-double's" in two of the three contests, a 19 point, 14 rebound performance against Worcester State on Saturday followed by a 13 point, 13 rebound game on Sunday against the Gators. The sophomore's totals on Sunday helped lead the Owls to their first win of the season, a 57-48 decision over Pine Manor.
Last week, Saucier was honored as the "Player of the Week" for the Association of NCAA Division III Independents after averaging 16.7 points and 9 rebounds per game in the Owls' first week of play. UMPI currently holds dual membership in both the NCAA Division III and the USCAA, making its student-athletes eligible for weekly, monthly, and season awards from both organizations.
