RUMFORD, ME - The single best day in UMPI skiing history took place today at Eastern Collegiate Championships. The Owls Men's Ski Team would post the second best score of the day with 102 points and Lydia Streinz (SR, Hersey, ME) would finish 38th in the women's field.
Sophomore Connor Hyrnuk (Boonville, NY) captured UMPI Ski Team's first ever podium by finishing third. Teammates John Paluszek (FR, Farmington, ME) finished 11th and Jason Bartley (FR, Presque Isle, ME) ended his day in 32nd. All three athletes turned in their personal best performances.
The UMPI men scored 102 points for the second best team score of the day, which would put them behind Williams College who scored 132 points on the day. The race, also known as the "Chummy Broomhall Cup," is the Maine Collegiate Championships. The three UMPI male athletes finished first, second, and eighth respectively, while Streinz ended up in seventh on the women's side.
In day two's events Hyrnuk would finish 28th overall, while Bartley would cross the line just seconds behind him in 29th place. Paluszek would end the rac in 49th position. Streinz would finish in 36th place.
