Owls Ski in Bates Carnival

WATERVILLE, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle skiing recently returned from competing in the Bates Carnival held in Waterville, Me.  Originally slated to be held at Black Mountain in Rumford, ME, little natural snow in the area had moved the event to Waterville where volunteers had done an excellent job preparing a 1.5km man mad loop.

Competition began on Friday, Jan 15th with a 1.5km classic sprint.  On the men's side the team was led Freshman Connor Hyrnuk (Boonville, NY) in 67th place.  Also competing Zach Veayo (JR, Farmington, ME) in his first year back after an ACL/MCL injury raced to 87th and Ian Marshall (FR, Saco, ME) came in 91st.

On the womens side the team was lead by senior Hilary Saucy (SR, Harleysvile, PA) in 59th, followed by Lydia Steinz (JR, Hersey, ME) in 80th and Valentina Annunziata (SO, Honeoye Falls, NY) in 92nd.
The second day or racing featured a 9km skate individual start for the men and 4.5km for the women.  Hrynuk, Veayo, and Marshall finished 59,73 and 74 respectively, while Streinz, Saucy, and Annunziata finished 46,47,and 70 on the women's side.
The team will next compete at the Colby Carnival held Jan 23 and 24
