Hilary Saucy a senior from (Harleysville, PA) and Lydia Streinz a junior from (Hersey, ME) have traveled to Houghton, Michigan over the long winter break to compete at U.S. Senior Nationals Championships.
The women have competed in two races thus far, the 10km classic individual start and the 1.5km skate sprint. Hilary has finished 113th and 89th, while Lydia posted finishes of 100th and 125th respectively. Over 150 women have competed both days.
"Nationals is something special, it's the real deal," said coach Joey Bard. "Both of these young ladies have done a fair amount of racing over the past few seasons, and they are both in excellent shape. They approached me a couple of months ago and asked If I thought Nationals would be something for them. We both agreed that it would be an excellent experience and an opportunity to see how they stacked up against the best in the Country. We aren't expecting huge results, purely a beneficial experience."
Hilary and Lydia will compete in one more event Thursday, the 20km Skate Mass Start. They will forgo the last event on Friday and make there way back to Presque Isle to resume training prior to the first College Carnival of the year next weekend in Rumford, Me.
