Owls Fall in Bangor to Finish the Weekend

Bangor, ME – The University of Maine at Presque isle Owls softball team played their second doubleheader on the weekend vs North Atlantic Conference opponent Husson University. The Owls lost a close one 2-1 in the first game before falling 6-1 in the second.

Game 1

2-1, Husson

Brookelynn Garcia (Torrance, CA) pitched the seven-inning game for the Owls, striking out five Eagles batters and only allowing one earned run. While Jen Jones pitched for Husson, earning the win with nine strikeouts on the game. The Owls had only one hit to the Eagles seven.

With only two hits through four innings the pitchers along with both teams defense, the score was 0-0 going into the fifth inning. The Eagle struck first with a run in the bottom of the fifth, off a single by Katie Raymond. The innings followed with more high-level defense by both teams, until the seventh inning.

The Owls began to put pressure on the Eagles in the seventh, with Sarah Duncklee (Kearny, AZ) singling to get on, followed by two walks by Jones, loading the bases. With the bases loaded Duncklee was able to score off a wild pitch, tying the game at one all, before the inning ended.  The Eagles answered right back with getting a player on first and second base, before a SAC hit followed by an Owls error allowed the Eagles player on second to advance home ending the game.

Game 2

6-1, Husson

Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) got the start for the Owls pitching 4.2 inning before being relieved by Brookleynn Garcia (Torrance, CA), who finished the game. Reagle would finish the game with one strikeout and five earned runs. Sydney Ames, of Husson, pithed the whole game, finishing with four strikeouts and one earned run.

Different from game one, the Eagles started early with a run in the first inning. The Owls quickly answered in the second. Dalaney Anfinson (Green Cove Springs, FL) started the inning with a single. Followed by a triple from Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) earning an RBI and tying the game at one. Three straight ground outs left Hansen on third and ending the inning. From that point on it was all Eagles, scoring in the second and the third innings. Then adding three more in the fifth, bringing the game to 6-1.
