Owls Fall to Husson in First NAC Doubleheader

Bangor, ME – The UMPI Owls softball team traveled to Bangor to face North Atlantic Conference opponent Husson University. This would be their third set of double headers on the year, but these were the first NAC games for both teams. The Eagles walked away with two wins on the day, 9-0 in the first game and 7-3 in the second.

Game 1

9-0, Husson

Abby Hooper (Machias, ME) got the start in the Owls first conference game of the year, while Jen Jones started for the Eagles and got them their first NAC win on the year. Jones finished all five innings with six strikeouts in the game and only allowing one hit. Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) came into the game to pitch the second and third innings, Brookelynn Garcia (Torrance, CA) finished the game for the Owls on the mound.

The Eagles started the game with 3-0 lead after the first inning, starting the game red hot. Jones continued to perform throughout the game on the mound for the Eagles. While offensively, it was all Husson in this game. They scored seven more runs in the following three innings.

Game 2

7-3, Husson

Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) pitched all six innings of the second game for the Owls, finishing the game with two strikeouts and allowing eight hits and six earned runs. Sydney Ames also pitched the whole game, for the Eagles. Ames finished the game with three earned runs.

The Eagles continued their impressive offense in the start of the second game, scoring five runs in the first inning. Two runs by a single from Morgan Coleman and another three from a single by Katie Raymond, and a fielding error by the Owls. This time the Owls answered back starting in the second inning, Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) started the second inning off with a triple to center field. Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL) singled to center field to bring Hansen home to give the Owls their first run of the game.

Continuing their hot offense, the Owls put two more runs on the board in the third inning. Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) started the third with a double. Shortly after, Sarah Duncklee (Kearny, AZ) followed with a triple, bringing Terry home. Hansen followed with another big hit, bringing Duncklee in and giving the Owls their third run of the game.

The game now 5-3 in the Eagles favor, after the Owls shifted the momentum. However, Husson answered back in the third with a run and added another in the fourth, bringing their lead to four, 7-3. The Owls were not able to keep their offense going the remainder of the game.

Duncklee and Hansen both led the Owls at the plate with two hits in their three at bats, while also finishing the game with one RBI each. Reagle also finished the game with two hits on her four at bats.

 

The Owls will finish their weekend conference play tomorrow in their second doubleheader vs Husson. Games start at noon, live links can be found at Owls.umpi.edu.
