Myrtle Beach, SC - The Owls (6-4) completed their week long Spring Trip in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina gaining a split of the two games on Friday, falling 9 to 1 to Kentucky Christian and winning Game #2 over Southern Vermont 10 to 1. UMPI will move up the East Coast and play a doubleheader at Mass Maritime on Sunday before making their way back to Presque Isle.
Kentucky Christian came out aggressively on the offensive end scoring 7 runs in the first two innings and grabbing a quick 7 to 1 lead over Me-Presque Isle. In the 1st inning Sydney Houck got KC on the scoreboard with a RBI single and Katerina Anthony ripped a 2 RBI Triple in the 2nd frame to pace the Lady Knights. The Owls hurt themselves with 3 errors early in the game.
Marissa Valdivia Reagle (So. Seattle, WA) started on the mound for UMPI and took the loss allowing 9 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits and recorded 6 strikeouts. Freshman Taylor Coleman got the pitching win for the Knights hurling 5 innings while giving up just 1 run on 5 hits.
Myrtle Beach, SC - In Friday's 11:30 AM game, UMPI pitcher Brookelynn Garcia (So. Torrance, CA) shut down Southern Vermont going 5 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 10.
The Owls scored first when Mel Terry (So. Moreno, CA) drove in Jordan Hansen (Fr. Phillips, NE) with a 1st inning RBI single. Me-Presque Isle added two more runs in the 2nd inning when Hansen was hit by a pitch with bases loaded scoring Madison Exferd. Marissa Valdivia Reagle then pushed Emily Page (So. Lincoln, ME) across the plate on a RBI fielder's choice.
In the 3rd inning UMPI's Exferd (So. La Grande, OR) scored again, this time on a RBI single by Jordi LeGassie (Sr. Presque Isle, ME). The Owls opened up the game in the 4th when they received RBI doubles by Mel Terry, Emily Page and Roni Shaw (Payette, ID). LeGassie, Hansen and Exferd each had RBI singles in the inning as UMPI put 6 more runs on the board.
Terry, Exferd and Legassie led the potent offensive attack in Game #2 of the day, each with 3 hits. Six other Owls had 1 hit apiece. Reagle, Shaw, Page and Terry each had doubles while Hansen, Terry and LeGassie led the way with 2 RBI each.
For the Mountaineers (4-6) who only had 4 hits and 1 run, Taylor Jarosz had a double and Julia Whipple had Southern Vermont's lone RBI.
