Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Softball Team recently began their Fall workouts in preparation for the 2019 season. The Owls will compete in the North Atlantic Conference as a new member this Spring. During the regular season schedule, Coach Sara Shaw's squad will also make their Southern Swing to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as well as playing other Maine competition such as Colby College and the University of New England, along with several ballgames in the Boston area.
The Owls Fall practices will focus a great deal on fundamentals, along with the veterans and newcomers to the Program, getting familiar with each other on the diamond.
"We have a great group returning this year and have added a really talented class this year as well," stated Coach Shaw. "The team is already coming together, bonding well and working hard. We are looking forward to another great year!"
Me-Presque Isle will have former pitching standout Sara Packard involved in the Program after recently completing a tremendous softball career at UMPI. Packard will be in a much different role for the Team as its Athletic Trainer but will be an asset around the squad.
Coach Shaw speaking on Sara Packard being involved with the Program: "It's great to have someone who had such an impact on our teams, remain a part of the program after graduation. Her softball IQ is incredible, she knows the program better than anyone. It's great to have her at the University as an Athletic Trainer and we are very happy she will continue to play a key role in our program."
UMPI will continue to workout throughout the remainder of the month of September and into early October.
