Softball to Make 3rd Straight USCAA National Tournament Appearance

Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's softball team celebrated in the Athletic Training Classroom of Wieden Hall on Monday as they were selected during the live USCAA 2018 Softball Selection Show as the 6th seed in this year's national tournament.  This will mark the third year in a row that Sara Shaw's Owls have advanced to the USCAA Nationals Tournament.

UMPI finished the season with an impressive 25-11 overall record, which included a second place finish in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Association softball tournament.  The Owls are led by the ACAA Pitcher of the Year Sara Packard (Sr, St. Albans, ME), ACAA Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year Melanee Terry (Fy, Moreno Valley, CA), and ACAA Defensive Player of the Year Jordi Legassie (Jr, Presque Isle, ME).

For a second year in a row, the Owls will take on Carlow University in the first round of the double elimination national tournament.  Last year the Owls fell in a heartbreaker 4-3 in extra innings; however, with a ramped up offense this year's team is eager to get a second shot at the Celtics of Carlow University.  The showdown will take place at Heindl Memorial Field in Dubois, PA on Monday, May 14th at 4:00 pm.
