Owls Fall in First ACAA Game

Canton, NY—The University of Maine Presque Isle Owls made their way to SUNY Canton over the weekend as the number two seed in the ACAA Conference Tournament.   The Owls took on the number three seed SUNY Canton in the first game.  Canton won this first round match up 7-5.

On the Saturday afternoon, the Owls lead early as Sara Packard (St. Albans, ME) singled in the second to bring Emily Page (Lincoln, ME) home.  Nicole Marucci (Naples, ME) followed with a single to bring Packard home and give the Owls a 2-0 lead in the second.

Canton responded quickly in the third as they took a 3-2 lead off an error by UMPI and a two RBI double by Valerie Clark.  Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) followed with a SAC fly in the third to bring in the tying run for the Owls.

With only one hit for both teams in the next couple innings, Canton's Clark started their rally with her second double of the game.  Brittany Miner brought in another run as she grounded out.  Jaedyn Ossont added their final two runs with a two run homer in the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh the Owls began their comeback.  Jordi Legassie (Presque Isle, ME) doubled to center to bring Jackie Peers home.  Marissa Reagle (Seattle, WA) hit a single to bring in another run.  The Owls comeback was not enough as the Kangaroos win the game.

The Owls will take on SUNY Delhi next in the double elimination tournament.
