Orono, ME – University of Maine at Presque Isle finish the weekend with another sweep against Pine Manor College in the Mahaney Dome at Orono. Owls win big with a 14-0 win in the first game and an 11-3 win in the second.
Owls' shortstop Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL) hit her first career homerun to start the scoring in the first. The homer along with some Gators errors gave UMPI a 2-0 lead. A big third inning followed for the Owls, starting with a two RBI double by Emily Page (Lincoln, ME). Another homer by Owls first basemen Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA), her fourth on the year, brought two more runs in. A single along with some errors by the Gators added to the Owls lead before their eight run third inning came to an end.
UMPI added three more runs to their 11-0 lead in the fourth off a double by Brookelynn Garcia (Torrance, CA) single by Alyssa Merone (Staten Island, NY) brought two more runs in. Ending the first game in five innings ad the Owls win 14-0.
Pine Manor came out strong in game two with two runs in the first off a single by Lauti followed by an error by the Owls, giving the Gators their first lead of the weekend, 2-0. UMPI took back the lead in the second off three single by Merone, Page and Alexis Levesque (Madawaska, ME), each bringing in a run.
A couple errors by the Gators, along with a single by Jordi Legassie (Presque Isle, ME) gave UMPI a 7-2 lead in the third. Three more runs in the fourth off a couple more singles gave the Owls an eight-point lead. A triple by Gators third basemen Whiteshield along with a throwing error by the Owls brought her all the way home. A single by Sara Packard (St. Albans, ME) brought Jackie Peers (Limestone, ME) home to bring the lead back to eight, as the Owls win 11-3.
Next weekend the Owls take on Southern Maine Community College in back to back double headers on Friday the 30th, 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM, and Saturday the 31st, 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
