NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The College of New Rochelle's softball team hosted the UMPI Owls on Saturday afternoon at Flowers Park. The Blue Angels took both wins with the final scores of 12-3 and 5-2.
The first inning in the opening game saw both teams bring runs in to put points on the scoreboard. The Owls added two runs from a double by Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) that brought Marissa Reagle (Seattle, WA) and Alissa Edwards (Nebraska City, NE) home. New Rochelle answered back at the plate putting four runs on the board due to errors in the field by UMPI.
The game remained close with no runs scored until the bottom of the third. New Rochelle scored six runs in inning off two triples, a double, a single, and an Owls error giving them a 10-2 lead. In the fourth inning Keyceana Moots brought in two more runs for the Blue Angels giving them a 12-2 lead. Hailey Davenport's (Chicago, IL) single in the fifth would score Emily Page (Lincoln, ME) for the last run of the game.
Both teams went scoreless in the opening inning of the second game during the afternoon double header. The Owls added one run to the board in the top of the second off a single from Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL). The Blue Angels responded in the third with two singles, each bringing in a run.
Both teams remained quiet until the sixth inning, when Reagle reached home on a Blue Angels error tying the game at two. New Rochelle immediately responded with a double by Victoria Holmes. Valerie Romano added another double for the Blue Angels to bring in two runs and stretch the lead to 5-2. New Rochelle's defense ended the game with a quick three and out by the Owls in the seventh. Reagle would receive her first loss of the year on the mound.
The Owls finish their spring road trip tomorrow, March 18th against Lehman College. Games are at 10:00 AM and Noon.
