Softball Ends Spring Trip with DH's Against Mary Baldwin and Husson

PRESQUE ISLE, ME - University of Maine at Presque Isle Softball team (5-7) finished up their spring trip with a doubleheader split at Mary Baldwin (7-23) on Thursday, and then were swept by Husson (12-6) on Sunday.

UMPI 10 – MBU 8

Nicole Marucci (JR, Naples, ME) hit a grand slam home run in the third inning, and Sara Packard (JR, St. Albans, ME) and Delanie Strout (FR, Greene, ME) would deliver RBI singles late to seal the win for UMPI.  The Owls would total 18 hits and have seven players record a multi-hit game.  Strout would finish three for four with two RBI, while Jordi Legassie (SO, Presque Isle, ME) would also end the contest three for four, adding two runs.  Packard would add two RBI in her two for four game.

MBU 7 – UMPI 5

A four-run seventh inning was not enough for the Owls, as their comeback attempt would fall short.  Mary Baldwin would collect ten hits and score in every inning but the second to build a 7-1 lead going into the last inning.  A single and two walks would load the bases for UMPI.  After a sacrifice fly would plate one run, Marucci would rip a double to center to score two more.  Ariel Williams (FR, Frisco, TX) would pick up a two-out RBI, and bring the tying run to the plate, but the Owls would not be able to complete the rally, falling by two on the road.  Emma Gogan (FR, Truro, NS) would go two for three in the game with two runs scored.  Esmerelda Galvan (FR, Bullhead City, AZ) would also collect two hits in two at bats.  She would also drive in two runs.

HU 9 – UMPI 0

The Owls would collect just six hits and leave seven on to get blanked by the Eagles in the first of two.  Husson was consistent putting pressure on UMPI, scoring two runs in the second, third and fourth, before adding three more in the sixth.  Williams would go two for three in the game for the Owls.

HU 7 – UMPI 0

The Owls would continue to struggle to put runs up in the second half of the twin bill as Courtney McIntyre (SO, Lincoln, ME) would throw a two-hit shutout, striking out three batters and walking no one.  Jakie Peers (FR, Limestone, ME) and Brianna Losee (JR, Pittsfield, ME) would collect the lone hits for UMPI.
