Waterville, ME -- Maine-Presque Isle could not hold down the Thomas College Terriers, losing both games of a doubleheader 9-7, 6-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Game one: Thomas 9 UMPI 7
Down early 9-0, the Owl fought back and made game one interesting.
In the fifth, UMPI got on the board with two runs, as Carly Bell and Shannon Brown each drove in one run. Down 9-2 entering the final inning, the Owls began a rally, as five runners came across to score and cut the deficit to just two until Terriers hurler Faith Robinson struck out Jessica Campbell for the final out to close out the win.
Bell, Brown and Sara Packard each had 2 hits for the Owls, with Brown driving in two. Packard went all seven innings, striking out 4 in the loss.
Game two: Thomas 6 UMPI 1
Emily McKenney and Nicole Ryder combined to throw a one-hitter for the Terriers. Senior Dani Smith had the lone hit for the Owls.
