FALCONS PROVE TO BE BIRD OF PREY
Lynn, MA -- The Maine Presque Isle softball team continued their southbound swing with a tripleheader against Fisher College Friday afternoon.
Game One: Fisher 6 Presque Isle 5
Senior Krista Coffin pitched well but was let down by her defense, pitching six innings of 8-hit ball giving up 6 runs, but only 1 was earned. Amanda Allen and Alyson Pullen had 2 hits each as the Owls fought from behind the entire game after allowing the Falcons two unearned runs in the bottom of the first.
Game Two: Fisher 10 Presque Isle 7
The Owls broke out with a huge 5-run second inning, using hits from Taylor Cochran, Pullen, Hannah Boyce and Coffin to give the Blue & Gold a 5-0 lead. Cochran, Coffin and Whitney Donovan had RBIs in the inning.
The Owl lead held until the Falcons scored a three-spot in the bottom of the 5th to bring the score 6-5 in the favor of Fisher. The game Owls would retake the lead 7-6 in the top of the 6th inning when Allen and Donovan reached base and scored on sacrifice hits from sophomore Shannon Brown and Brittney Luetjen.
Falcons would nail down the second win in two games by scoring four runs in the bottom of the 6th, two of which were unearned, after the Owls had played five solid innings of errorless ball.
With one out in the top of the 7th and down 10-7, the Owls would mount a comeback attempt as Pullen and Boyce walked. Hot hitting Amanda Allen would single, but the rally was stalled when Boyce was caught off second base and Donovan would pop out to first to end the game.
Game Three: Fisher 21 Presque Isle 15
Fisher opened the game with a 10 run 1st inning that included Freshman Kristina Brown knocking five runs in with a 2-run home run and 3-run double. Every Lady Falcon was able to secure a hit for the second straight game and the Owls were almost as effective with their offensive attack, answering back by scoring nine runs in the top of the second.
A mix of rain and snow didn't help the quality of play as the Owls attempted to comeback taking a 15-13 lead in the top of the 4th inning. But that lead was short-lived as the Falcons came right back in the bottom of the frame and tallied 8 runs to give the home standing squad the final 21-15 margin of victory.
Brown had 5 RBI for the Blue & Gold and Allen, Donovan, Brown, Katie Patenaude and Katlyn Dow all had 2 hits each. Pullen and Cochran each knocked in 3 runs in the loss.
