OWLS BATTLE MARINERS

Bangor, ME --  Game One:  Maine Maritime 12 Maine-Presque Isle 6

With Maine Maritime (MMA) ahead 8-4 in the top of the 5th inning, Maine-Presque Isle starting pitcher and cleanup hitter Krista Coffin started a two-run rally with her second of three singles for the game.  Brittany Luetjen knocked Coffin in and scored her second run of the game later in the inning on Alyson Pullen's sacrifice bunt to bring the score to 8-6.

MMA would answer back with a four-run rally of their own in the bottom of the frame to give the Mariners a 12-6 advantage.  Mariner Erika Taylor had the key hit, a hard double to plate two of the runs.

In the top of the seventh the Owls refused to go down quietly.  Coffin collected her third hit to lead the final inning off and with one out, Katie Patenaude smacked her third hit of the game to move runners to first and second.  Despite the surge of momentum, the rest of the Presque Isle lineup could not put a ball in play, striking out twice to end the inning and give game one to Maine Maritime.

Game Two:  Maine Maritime 4 Maine-Presque Isle 3

The nightcap saw another tight game go the Mariners way.  Playing under a time limit on the indoor field at the Mahaney Dome, the Owls took a 3-0 lead with a big top half of the first inning.

Amanda Allen started game two off with a bunt single, Taylor Cochran reached base on an error and Luetjen brought home both Owls with a double.  Coffin singled to continue the inning and Lurtjen scored on a ball put into play by Patenaude a batter later.

The Mariners would answer in the bottom of the third.  The Owls allowed MMA to score three runs,  using two walks and a batter-hit-by-pitch to tie the game on a double hit by MMA's Ashlee Knight.

The winning run was scored in the bottom of the 4th inning as Kelsey Nalette hit a pinch-hit leadoff double and would later score after a combination of sacrifice hits plated the go-ahead run.

The game would conclude at the end of the 5th inning due to a scheduled time limit of play at the indoor facility.
