WATERVILLE, ME- The Thomas College Terriers were able to walk away with two non-conference softball victories on Sunday in a doubleheader versus University of Maine-Presque Isle (5-22). Thomas (10-23) took the first game 9-1, then completed the sweep with an 8-0 win in the nightcap.
The Owls will finally play their first home games of the season next weekend when they host a doubleheader against Fisher (MA) College on Saturday (12pm / 2pm) at Presque Isle High School.
GAME 1: Thomas 9, OWLS 1 (5 innings)
Presque Isle kicked off the scoring, putting up one run the first inning. Ashley Laking (Fr./Topsfield, ME) led off by reaching on an error and later scored on a passed ball. Thomas would respond with three runs in the bottom half, as Lauren Hachey (Oakland, Maine) drove in Alyssa Eugley (Sidney, Maine) with a double to left field. McKayla Gasita (Milford, Maine) then singled to left driving in Hachey and Samantha Moore (Etna, Maine) for 2 RBI.
After plating a run in the 3rd, the Terriers put up another three-spot in the 4th. Kristi Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) scored on a passed ball, Ashlee Quirrion (Jay, Maine) singled to drive home Kimberly Grant (Alton Bay, N.H.), then Hachey doubled to center to drive home Quirrion.
The fifth inning saw Thomas score two more runs to reach the eight run mercy rule, 9-1.
Faith Robinson (Auburn, N.H.) pitched five innings, yielding three hits, while allowing one earned run. Krista Coffin (Jr./Presque Isle, ME) took the loss.
1B Taylor Cochran (Fr./Topsfield, ME) had one of the Owls three hits in the opener, a double in the 2nd. Cochran has hit safely in 5 of her last 6 games.
GAME TWO: Thomas 8, OWLS 0
The Terriers big inning came in the 4th. Already leading 3-0, the Terriers scored 5 times with the big hit coming in the form of a Sara Moynihan double to right that scored a pair.
Eugley led Thomas, going 3-3 with one RBI in the contest.
Robinson picked up her 10th victory of the season, holding the Owls hitless after the first inning while striking out four. Gastia pitched one inning of hitless relief, striking out one.
