(NASHUA, NH) – Senior Amanda Wilson (Merrimack, N.H.) tossed a complete game four hitter striking out nine and sophomore Sarah Durocher followed with a five-hit shutout striking out seven as host Daniel Webster opened its home schedule with a 4-1 and 10-0 sweep of Maine at Presque Isle Friday at Eagle Field.
DWC won its second and third straight improving to 4-8 overall. UMPI dropped to 0-4.
Wilson (1-2) went the distance allowing one earned run and walked none and helped her cause at the plate with a RBI triple in the 4-1 opener. Freshman Ashley England (Old Town, Maine) added a pair of hits at lead off while fellow rookie Mollie Bartles (Torrington, Conn.) added a RBI single.
DWC plated three runs with two unearned in the bottom of the first on four hits. Wilson tacked on the fourth run in the third for a 4-0 lead.
Megan Hannigan (Fr./Houlton, ME) broke the shutout bid with a RBI single in the fifth as the Owls notched three of their four hits in the frame.
In the nightcap, Durocher (1-2) walked none over five innings and DWC broke the game open with a four-run second and added two in the third and three in the fourth as part of a 15-hit attack.
England went 3 for 4 with a double and RBI, Theresa DiSantis went 3 for 3 knocking in one, Courtney Brennan (Beverly, Mass.) connected for a two-run single in the second, and Durocher backed her pitching efforts by knocking in two with RBI singles in the third and fourth.
Krista Coffin (Jr./Presque Isle) took both losses on the mound (0-3). She struck out 7 and walked 1 in pitching every inning for the Owls on the day. Kellie Peers (Sr./Caswell, Maine) had two hits in game two for the Owls.
UMPI visits Randolph (Va.) on Monday at 3:00 p.m.
