Lady Owls Softball Ends Season With Loss in Conference Championship

WESTON, Mass. - The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's softball team saw their season come to a close in 8-0 decision against SUNY Canton in the championship game of the Sunrise Conference tournament at Regis College in Weston, Mass.

SUNY Canton moves on to an unaffiliated conference qualifying tournament with a berth in the NAIA national tournament on the line. The Roos will face Edwards Waters College (Fla.) in a best two-out-of-three event May 6-8 at Old Watt Powell Park in Charleston, W. Va.

Canton sophomore pitcher Tina DeLuca earned the win from the mound as she tossed a one-hit shutout, while Owl hurler Krista Coffin (Presque Isle, Me) allowed 11 hits, while walking three and striking out one.

Junior outfielder Carolynn Tuck (Brewer, ME) earned the lone UMPI hit of the game; the Owls committed two errors in the field.

With the final game, the Lady Owls finish their 2011 season at 14-13 overall.
