Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's cross country teams hosted their annual UMPI Invitational on the challenging but beautiful course at Park Family Field. North Atlantic Conference opponents Thomas College and Maine Maritime Academy competed in the meet.
Jared Hooper of Thomas College earned the title of UMPI Invitational 1st place winner. With a time of 21:06 the tight race came down to the final few Kilometers. Ponce Saltysiak was right on the heals of Hooper, finishing in second with a time of 21:15. While his fellow MMA teammate finished third with a time of 21:39.
Stephen Grierson finished fourth overall for the Owls in his first official college race, finishing with a time of 22:28, giving him a 6:01 mile average. Alessandro Marroquin finished next for the Owls with a time of 27:02, giving him a 16th place finish. Campton Tinkham finished 20th with a time of 29:55, while Joel Soper finished 21st with a time of 32:13
Maine Maritime Academy came away with the team win, with a total score of 24, while the Thomas College Terriers finished with a team score of 31.
The Owls will head to Thomas College on September 11th for the North Atlantic Conference Preview as they prepare for their race in Waterville.
