VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The UMPI Owls Cross Country Team is preparing for The USCAA National Meet to be held on Friday, November 10th. The Men's team has qualified and will all compete, while the women will be sending Emmy Churchill (SO, Washburn, ME) as their lone representative that qualified.
Kyle Davis (FR, Addison, ME), Danny Gilotti (FR, Ludlow, ME), Jesus Gonzalez IV (FR, Othello, WA), Andrew Hunt (JR, Bennington, NH), and Saul Nunez (SR, Mapleton, ME) will represent UMPI at the meet. The Owls as a team has shown improvement all season long, and are looking forward to the challenge. The Men's 8K will start at 10:30 am on Friday.
Emmy Churchill was a late addition to the Owls' Women's Cross Country team this season, but no stranger to the sport. It did not take long for her to return to her form from her high school days, and she quickly became the team's top runner. Emmy will be running a 6K race that starts at 9:30 am on Friday.
"This is the race we prepare for all year," said Head Coach Chris Smith. "We've worked through some minor injuries and illnesses but are ready to go after our best performances of the season. We'll see the best the USCAA has to offer and will finally go head-to-head with them. Our fitness has been attained and we now simply need to get out of ourselves what we've stored up all season. I'm sure we'll race up to our individual and, consequently, our team potentials."
Both meets will be held at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex and the course will take the participants around the Princess Anne Athletic Complex. For more information on the USCAA and the National Meet, visit www.theuscaa.com.
