FARMINGTON, ME - The Men's U-Maine at Presque Isle cross country program ran to sixth place of seven teams on Saturday at the U-Maine at Farmington Invitational.
Kyle Davis, (FR, Addison, ME) ran the abbreviated but difficult course within 45 seconds of his previous 5K best in finishing in 20:49 and 42nd place of the 89 finishers. His diligence to his summer training regimen was much in evidence throughout, having traversed the course with relative ease. Another freshman was the second Owls finisher. Jesse Gonzalez (Othello, WA) ran his first collegiate race at 21:41 and 49th place. Senior Saul Nunez (Presque Isle, ME) set the pace that freshman Danny Gillotti (Ludlow, ME) virtually matched. Nunez's 21:50 bested a fast-closing Gillotti by two seconds as the two supplied the third and fourth place points. Junior Andrew Hunt (Bennington, NH) finished in 59th with a time of 22:16 in closing out the scoring. The five Owls were 23 seconds apart at the mile mark and only 1:28 at the finish, a gap that should shrink due to the relative conditioning of the five.
The men will be in Bangor on September 9th for the Husson Invitational.
