Virginia Beach, VA – Five personal best times by the nine men made for a strong 10th place finish for the University of Maine at Presque Isle as they competed at the USCAA Nationals on Friday afternoon.
SUNY Delhi came out the national champions by placing four runners in the top 10 of the 171 man field. Their score of 46 was 14 better than that of second place Berea College (60). Cleary University was third with 103. Isaiah Dobson (SO, Morristown, TN) of Berea College was the individual champion with a time of 25:15 for the 8k course.
Sully Jackson (SR, Wilton, ME) ran in his last collegiate meet, posting a personal best time of 27:52. Head Coach Chris Smith reacted to his strong showing, "Sully is a superior big meet runner. He always runs well when it counts the most. His 32nd place finish with his PR attests to the strength of this national championship field." Jackson was followed by Trevor Levesque (JR, Presque Isle, ME) the second of five Owls posting personal bests on the day. He was in at 28:58 (52nd) and was followed by Saul Nunez (JR, Mapleton, ME) (75th, 30:50), Jake Welch (FR, Duluth, MN) (76th, PR at 30:52), Cameron Mathies (FR, Hampden, ME) (78th, PR at 30:55), Andrew Hunt (SO, Bennington, NH) (95th, 32:08), Terrence Reidy (FR, Presque Isle, ME) (106th, 33:22), Justin Lopez (SO, Lincolnville, ME) (134th, PR at 34:37), and James Churchill (SO, Chapman, ME) (144th, 36:34).
The Owls will now take active rest before starting off-season training in preparation for spring track and field. Underclassmen look forward to the University's starting formal varsity spring track for the 2018 season.
