Men's Cross Country Finishes Sixth at Johnson State

JOHNSON, VT – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Cross Country team competed in the Johnson State College Invitational on Saturday.  Out of eleven teams the Owls finished with a team score of 192, which was good enough for sixth place.

Sully Jackson (SR, Wilton, ME) was the leader for the Owls, finishing 21st overall with a time of 29:30.  Trevor Levesque (JR, Presque Isle, ME) turned in another strong performance.  His time of 30:52 put him across the line in 31st place.  Teammate Jacob Welch (FR, Duluth, MN) finished just three spots behind Levesque, with a time of 31:14.  Junior Saul Nunez was the next to finish for the Owls with a time of 34:38.  Terrance Reidy (FR, Presque Isle, ME) rounded out the scoring for UMPI in 54th place (35:43).  Andrew Hunt (SO, Bennington, NH) would finish 55th (36:14) and Dylan Hartford (FR, Herman, ME) would come in 65th (38:31), as the sixth and seventh UMPI runners.  Justin Lopez (SO, Lincolnville, ME) would also compete and finish with a time of 39:24, while James Churchill (SO, Chapman, ME) crossed the line at 39:31.

Southern Vermont College's team score of 107 gave them a comfortable gap in front of UMPI.  The Owls narrowly edged out the seventh and eighth placed teams as SUNY Canton's team score of 196 and Paul Smith's College's score of 198 was not good enough to overcome UMPI's 192.

The Owls will stay in state next weekend and participate in the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday, September 24th.
