BRUNSWICK, ME – Eight of eleven runners set personal best times and the Owls finished seventh at the Maine State Meet held at Bowdoin College.
Freshman Andrew Hunt (Bennington, NH) had the biggest day for UMPI, dropping over two minutes off of his previous time on the same course from just a few weeks ago. Connor Hrunyk (FR, Boonville, NY) paced the Owls, dropping below the 27 minute mark for the first time in his career at 26:57. Sully Jackson (JR, Wilton, ME) turned in another solid performance with a time of 27:54. Matt Forshey (FR, Scotia, NY) was the third to score for the Owls.
Head Coach Chris Smith described his team's day. "We had 8 of 11 guys set personal bests in this one where we beat Division 3 schools St. Joes, Thomas, Husson, and Maine Maritime. U-Maine Farmington was just a bit too strong for us with the larger schools showing their strengths in the first through fifth spots. Conditions were not as favorable as they were here three weeks ago but being a bit more rested and gearing up for a state meet brings out the best. Four of the eight with PRs were in our top five, the scoring five. Trevor Levesque (SO, Presque Isle, ME), at 29:12, Hebert at 29:41, and Mitch St. Peter (FR, Caribou, ME) at 29:54 dipped below the 30 minute mark with their PRs this trip."
The Owls have a schedule change this weekend and will now be traveling to Thomas College on Friday. The race starts at 2:45 PM.
