Powerful teams from Bowdoin, Tufts, U-Mass Dartmouth, Colby-Sawyer, and others made this day an eye-opener for the men's squad from Presque Isle. The competition was beneficial however as all runners were pushed to improved performances over the 8K course.
Jesse Sandstrom led the way through the mile at 5:38 with Philip Boody and Corey Hebert close behind. Brandon Wade, hampered by an ankle sprain suffered earlier in the week, came through at 6:34, well ahead of what Coach Smith had anticipated. The first four Owls finishers were Boody, Hebert, Sandstrom, and Wade at 29:50/69th, 30:32/77th, 30:49/82nd, and 35:00/110th, respectively, in the 129 man field.
Team scoring was rounded out by a much improved David Huntley, in at 37:56, good enough for 123rd spot. Senior Richard Landry, hampered by illness, finished at 40:00 for 128th place. The Owls travel to Waterville and the Colby College Invitational on October 5th, a preview of the course being run in the state championships being contested on October 19th.
