Proper pacing was not the race strategy undertaken by a two Owls harriers as they came through the one and two mile points in Bangor's technical Saxl Park course. This combined with three significant hills and wet, soggy, and soft conditions caused the dropping off of pace.
Veteran Philip Boody suffered no such decline throughout as the senior properly paced the 8K run to a 24th of 77 runner's finish, in at 32:29. Corey Hebert dropped off a bit in posting his 34:00 time, good enough for 35th place.
"8K race experience and pace work will get our newcomers more in tune to the effort-sense needed for running this distance", according to Coach Chris Smith. "It will certainly come with time."
Richard Landry was unable to finish due to a lingering illness and an overly quick start, but made a go of it over the first two miles before succumbing. Bandon Wade, Jesse Sandstrom, and David Huntley were unable to bake the trip, due to prior commitments, but will be ready to run in the next go-round set for the University of New England on September 14th.
