Mens Cross Country Competes in State Championships
This course looks complicated on paper but runs simply and very fast. The quality of the field led to very fast opening miles by all Owls harriers with Garrett Hilton and Corey Hebert just under six minutes for the opener. Closely following were Tyler Hilton, Aiden Bothwell, and Richard Landry, all ahead of pace, an indication of the speed of this course and the quality of the field. Nationally ranked Bates and Bowdoin finished a close one-two with Samuel Seekins of Bates the race winner. The Owls, with the conspicuous absence of Philip Boody and Thomas Grylka, were 11th overall but improved individual times as they head into the final four weeks of the 2012 campaign. Season's best times for all runners today show the necessary continued improvement in making the case for nationals attendance.
Corey Hebert 116th of 166 at 31:27
Garrett Hilton 124th at 31:59
Tyler Hilton 134th at 33:03
Aiden Bothwell 146th at 34:16
Richard Landry 165th at 41:57
Coach Smith had this to say about the race.
"All our guys set an initially concerning pace but kept the effort up in maintaining positions throughput this race. Corey ran typically. Were someone to ask him "what's your style" I'd have to answer for him "tough as nails" – he left nothing out there. He is capable of pushing his limits every time out and showed it again today. Garrett and Tyler continue to impress and Aiden looked very strong throughout in taking 1:45 off last weeks time on this longer course. Richard brought his time down considerably today."
Next week Mens Cross Country will compete at the Mariner Invitational hosted by Maine Maritime Academy in Bucksport, ME.
