Owls Fifth at NAC Championship

The men's track and field contingent performed up to expectations in Saturday and Sunday's NAC championships as they finished in fifth spot as predicted by the pre-championship poll.  Additionally, they finished 11th of the 18 schools represented in the Combined Championships featuring all NAC, NECC, and GNAC institutions.  Eight men recorded nine personal bests and/or school records in scoring 21 points in outdistancing the teams from NVU-Lyndon and NVU-Johnson.  Kyle Davis (Addison, ME) recorded his bests in the 200m (27.77) and the 800m (2:21.12).  Other personal bests were logged by Devon Maynard (Perham, ME) in the 800m (2:13.38), Matthew Payan (Auburn, NH) in the 400m (56.87), Tyler Beach (Kennetcook, NS) in the javelin (44.00m/144-04), and Allen Stanback (Salem, NJ) in the discus (23.30m/76-05).  Connor Hrynuk broke the school record in the 800m at 2:11.88.  School record performances (also personel bests) were also turned in by Sam Carpenter (New Bedford, MA) in the shot (9.91m/32-06.25) and Paul Kaplan (Embden, ME) in the triple jump (12.01m/39-05).  The 4x400m relay team of Kaplan, Davis, Maynard, and Hrynuk broke the previous school record in clocking a time of 3:50.22.  The 4x 800m relay team of Andrew Hunt (Peterborough, NH), Davis, Maynard, and Hrynuk shattered the previous school record on Saturday at 8:57.30.

The Owls' 21 NAC points were scored by Zach Boyle (Brunswick, ME) in the javelin (44.80m/147-00, second place, 8 points), Beach in the javelin (44.00m/144-04, 6 points), Hunt in the 3000m steeplechase (11:02.44, sixth place, 1 point), the 4x400m relay team of Kaplan, Payan, Hrynuk, and Maynard (fifth place, 2 points), and the 4x800m relay team of Hunt, Davis, Maynard, and Hrynuk (fourth place, 4 points).  Scoring the eight points in the Combined Championship were Boyle (fourth in javelin, 4 points), Beach (fifth in javelin, 2 points) and the 4x800m relay team of Hunt, Davis, Maynard, and Hrynuk (fifth place, 2 points).
